History:
The Heron’s Nest landback project was created in 2020 by community for the benefit of the Duwamish Tribe and the broader Duwamish River Valley community. Over the last few years the community has come together to work on the land and learn; creating art and lasting bonds. The Heron’s Nest serves community from ALL of Seattle’s neighborhoods. People come to learn and volunteer in the urban forest, the urban gardens and join in on open arts nights. Community has made Heron’s Nest what it is today, and Duwamish is very excited to host an event that will be able to celebrate this important milestone with them - the gifting of ancestral land from Shared Spaces Foundation.
